Overview
Becoming explores the tension between creation and erosion through a digitally sculpted human form suspended between completion and collapse. Layers of clay-like material continuously emerge, shift, and dissolve across the figure's surface, transforming the body into a living landscape of memory, experience, and change.
The work draws inspiration from traditional sculpture while reimagining the medium through motion. Rather than presenting identity as fixed, Becoming portrays the self as an ongoing process, shaped by time, emotion, and lived experience. The slow movement of material across the face suggests the accumulation of memories, the weight of transformation, and the constant negotiation between who we are and who we are becoming.
Through its minimal palette, tactile textures, and contemplative pacing, the film invites viewers to reflect on the fluid nature of human existence and the beauty found within impermanence.
Challenge
Translating an abstract psychological concept into a visual experience that feels both emotionally intimate and universally relatable without relying on narrative or dialogue.
Process
- Researched themes of identity, memory, and transformation.
- Developed a digital sculpture inspired by classical portraiture and contemporary art.
- Created procedural surface deformations to simulate material growth and erosion.
- Refined lighting and camera composition to emphasize texture and emotional depth.
Outcomes
- Produced a cinematic digital artwork that merges sculpture and motion design.
- Created a visual metaphor for personal growth, change, and impermanence.
