MobiScout: A scalable cloud-based driving and activity monitoring platform featuring an IOS app and a WatchOS extension

SoftwareX

Abstract

MobiScout is an iOS application designed to monitor users' driving habits and physiological conditions on the road. This app offers a cost-effective, next-generation solution for data collection and analysis in naturalistic driving studies. MobiScout captures real-time data, encompassing physiological information, using sensors on mobile phones, smartwatches, and Bluetooth-enabled OBD equipment. The software records data such as speed, braking, pulse rate, and acceleration, while the phone's camera captures both the interior and exterior views of the car. Data can either be streamed to cloud storage in real-time or stored locally in areas without WIFI. The acquired data serves to enhance our understanding of typical traffic behavior, driver performance, and surrounding conditions.

01

Comparative analysis of animated interface patterns

02

Prototype studies with controlled transition timing

03

Qualitative review of perceived clarity and cognitive load

Findings

01

Users interpret motion most reliably when it maps directly to state change.

02

Short delays can improve sequence comprehension when paired with clear hierarchy.

03

Decorative movement reduced confidence when it competed with primary content.
